Data Forensics is the scientific recovery and analysis of digital information to gain both intelligence and digital evidence.

The volatile nature of digital evidence means that specialist equipment and skills are requirement to ensure that all potential evidence is captured and the integrity of the evidence is maintained. The team at Fulcrum Data Forensics’ have carried out hundreds of data forensic investigations. We are fully compliant with Association of Police Officers Best Practice Guide for Computer Based Evidence and use tried and tested methodologies.

We understand that there may be occasions when a full investigation is not required. (for example, a complaint by one member of staff against another). A forensic preview can offer a fast and economical route to establishing if further investigation is required. Specialist hardware is used to preview the suspect data for relevant evidence whilst guaranteeing the integrity of the evidence if required at a later date.

From car boot fairs to blue chip corporate head quarters, we can assist with the initial identification and seizure of the evidence. Where seizing the original hardware is not an option, onsite data capture using portable forensic equipment provides an alternative route. We can also carry out covert data acquisitions within internal investigations as and when required.

Data held within mobile phones can provide crucial evidence and should not be overlooked. Specialist applications are required to access this vital data. Information that can be accessed includes:

  • Text Messages
  • Call records
  • Address Book
  • Photos
  • Videos

New developments such as web browsing and satellite navigation will only increase the value and variety of mobile phone evidence.

Transferring the complex nature of computers and digital file structures into reports that can be understood and interpreted by non specialists is a key role of the data forensics expert and something which is sometimes overlooked. Whether during an informal briefing, an official witness statement or a personal appearance in court, we pride ourselves in producing results that are clear and easily accessible.
